So, like, I was just browsing online (as you do, procrastinating on actual important stuff), and BAM! These things just jumped out at me. I mean, who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse, right? It’s pure nostalgia, but the *Ingersoll* part? That’s where it gets cool. Ingersoll was the OG Mickey Mouse watch maker, back in the 30s! Can you even imagine?!
Apparently, they’ve been reissuing some of those designs, and honestly, I’m kinda drooling. I saw one that was a 1933 replica, and ohmygod, it even had the original box and papers. For like $300! (Okay, maybe a *little* less drooling now, ha!) But still, the thought is there. And you know, getting that original box and papers is a pretty big deal for collectors.
Honestly, it’s kinda crazy how much some of these vintage Mickey Mouse watches are going for. I saw another listing for a 1938 Ingersoll Mickey Mouse watch for like, almost 300 bucks! *Before* shipping! What the heck? Makes you wonder if you should start combing through your grandma’s attic, doesn’t it? I bet she’s got all kinds of hidden treasures that are worth a fortune.
But back to the replicas. I think the appeal for adults is that it’s not just a cartoon character plastered on your wrist. It’s history, it’s a piece of art deco design (kinda), and it’s a subtle way to say, “Hey, I’m a grown-up, but I also don’t take myself too seriously.” Y’know? Like, imagine wearing one with a suit. Hilarious and awesome.
I did see this one Ingersoll & Disney Limited Edition Collaboration thingy, and it mentioned using the “original designs.” That’s what I want! It just feels more authentic, more… legit. I mean, if you’re gonna drop some cash on a Mickey Mouse watch, you want it to be the real deal, even if it’s a recreation, if you know what I mean. It can even be a pocket watch!
I’ll admit, I’m terrible with winding watches. The thought of having to wind it everyday makes me want to run and hide and it just sounds like a whole lotta work. I want to be able to just pop it on and go. But still, I love the look of them.
