But let’s be real, what *is* the deal with these bags? I mean, I saw some stuff online about them being born on a plane, back in ’84, with Jane Birkin and the Hermès chairman, Jean-Louis Dumas. Kinda cool, right? Like a chance encounter turned into *the* It bag. I guess that’s why they call it the Birkin, duh.

And there’s, like, different sizes, I guess. I saw a “Birkin 35” and a “Birkin 40” mentioned. What’s the difference? Honestly, I couldn’t really tell ya. Maybe the 40 holds a bigger, uh, stash of cash? Or maybe just more snacks? Priorities, people!

The thing that really gets me, though, is the *price*. Seriously, are they made of freakin’ gold or something? I saw stuff about buying them “second-hand” (aka, someone else got bored of it, maybe? Or needed to pay their mortgage, LOL) and even *those* are still ridiculously expensive. You can even negotiate the price! On a *used* bag! Like, come on, what’s the haggling strategy there? “Look, it’s got a coffee stain, can I get, like, 50 bucks off?” I’m just picturing that conversation and it’s hilarious.

And then there’s the whole “luxury and fashion designer” angle. Yeah, yeah, I get it. Hermès is a *brand*. But is it really worth, like, a down payment on a house? I mean, it’s a bag! A nice bag, sure, probably smells amazing (I bet that leather is somethin’ else), but still…

I guess what I’m trying to say is, the Birkin bag thing is just… a lot. It’s a symbol, sure, but what does it even symbolize? Money? Status? Good taste? Maybe it’s all of those things, or maybe it’s just a really well-made bag that everyone else wants because everyone else wants it. You know? It’s kinda circular logic, if you ask me.
